Seal Woman (2003)

Seal Woman
2003
Chagall

A very slow chant, written about the Selkie legends of both North America and Britain. Published on my album in 2003.

Lyrics:

Seal woman, take your skin
Go on home, you cannot stay worn thin

For the waves, wild and free
Are your home, a longing is calling thee

Water woman, don't you stay
For your skin, is drier every day

For the waves, wild and free
Are your home, a longing is calling thee

Ocean woman, go your way
Go on home, then you'll be back someday

For the waves, wild and free
Are your home, a longing is calling thee

Lady of Blossoming (1996)

Lady of Blossoming
1996-ish
Chagall

This one, the chord structure is stolen from the 14th century and I made it my own with three interweaving melodies in voice (doubled by violin), harp, and flute. It ends up seemingly Celtic, but from Mediaeval roots. It's a song for May Day.

Lyrics:

Lady of Blossoming, awaken us to Thy bliss
O Green Lady, Springbringer, lovers joy in Thy kiss
Passion of leaf and fern, of flowering moss on stone
Wood-green light dances here, for love's delight alone

Green Lady of the wood, how shall we celebrate this day
By dancing and laughter, and loving on the first of May
Passion of flesh and bone, of heartbeat close to heartbeat
The year-wheel is turning now, merry part and merry meet

[Descant until end:]
Lord of the Green, Lady of Light
Let us now celebrate, take joy in Thy sight
Lord of the Green, Lady of Love
Soft earth beneath us, branches above

Always Breathe (2010)

Always Breathe
2010-ish

Chagall

Written for FAWM, I think in 2010. Someone wanted to cover it right away which was pretty cool. I reworked the lyrics slightly in 2013 for this version.

Lyrics:

Never wanted someone to take my breath away
Always wanted something stronger and here to stay
Never wanted oh, all this heartbreak
Why do so many say you can't take joy without pain?

Feel me breathe

Feel you breathe
Breathe love
Always breathe love
Always breathe

Never wanted the silence, cold toes on the floor
Always wanted to feel sunny, know I'm adored
Always wanted oh, the love to keep filling up
To cherish each other, only sweetness in that cup

So drink it down like air and sunlight
So breathe it in like green and blue
So say you love me and always be there
And I'll be eternally with you

Feel me breathe
Feel you breathe
Breathe love
Always breathe love
Always breathe

Always wanted someone to walk with side by side
To savour and to hold, to share the love inside
Always wanted oh, a love pouring like rain
With you, I can breathe again

No Guarantees (1996)

No Guarantees
1996-ish
Chagall

Written just before I joined the Goth band, I think. More of a punk style. But piano punk not guitar punk. O.O

Lyrics:

You can promise me today that you'll love me forever
But tomorrow will you even remember my name
No guarantees

Even if you think you love me would it be for real
And even if I really loved you
How can love ever truly be stronger than steel

I could promise you today that I'll love you forever
But sometime or someday will we still be together this way
No guarantees

People die
People change
People find somebody new
People lie
People mistake lust for love
People
Find somebody better than you
No guarantees

[Wild piano solo]

You can promise me today that you'll love me forever...

Night Garden (1996)

Night Garden

1996-ish
Chagall

Written around the time I was in a Goth band called Wysteria which was unfortunately shortlived. Music for this is very stately.

Lyrics:

Often have I walked there, where lovers love to play
Where flowers fill the darkened air, now there I'll stay
Long's the time I've longed for you, though they say love is blind
Well so is pride and now I know which I'd leave behind

Night Garden
Fill me with sweet scent
Night Garden
Help me to forget you went
Away

Veiled by night the white moonflowers perfume a place I know
There we fought and there you left me those long years ago
You walk with me within these dreams, you're twined into my soul
Just as the twisting, climbing vines that in this garden grow

Night Garden
Fill me with sweet scent
Night Garden
Help me to forget you went

The scent of your skin has faded
Into the whispering wind
As I walk this labyrinth
All I feel is numbness within

Often have I walked here where lovers love to play
Where flowers fill the darkened air, now here I'll stay
Long's the time I've longed for you though they say love is blind
Well so is pain and now I know which I'd leave behind

Night Garden
Fill me with sweet scent
Night Garden
Help me to forget you went
Away
